Halma, the parent company of MicroSurgical Technology (MST), announced the acquisition of Surgistar, a US-based manufacturer of ophthalmic instruments and devices. The business will operate as a bolt-on acquisition for MST. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in California more than 20 years ago, Surgistar specializes in high-quality surgical instruments and devices used in routine ophthalmic procedures. Surgistar’s portfolio includes precision instruments designed to perform consistently in demanding surgical environments. “Cataract and ophthalmic surgery are long-term growth markets for Halma, supported by ageing populations and rising demand for eye procedures," said Marc Ronchetti, Group Chief Executive of Halma. "Surgistar’s differentiated product range is highly complementary to MST’s, strengthening its position by adding products used in routine cataract surgery and expanding in-house manufacturing capability. We are delighted to welcome Surgistar to MST and the Halma Group.” By integrating Surgistar into MST, Halma aims to enhance its product offering in ophthalmic surgery while also strengthening its manufacturing capabilities.
