Recent studies have reported a possible association between glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). The North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology provide consensus expert opinion and clinical guidance about this association. Currently available evidence primarily includes retrospective observational studies, many of which rely on analysis of electronic health record and administrative claims data and are subject to limitations.
