BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Under the guidance of faculty advisor Sandra Wang-Harris, OD, MPH, FAAO, a cohort of students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry's Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) is dedicating their time and expertise to provide essential eyecare services, according to an announcement from the school. This work includes offering vision screenings, comprehensive eye exams, and prescription lenses to underserved populations both locally and internationally. Dr. Wang-Harris said the international opportunities are a major reason many of the members join SVOSH. As students serve at local events and clinics, they earn points toward selection and financial assistance.
